Qualification & work experience
Mr. Chee Joong Kim received both of his
bachelor's and master's degrees in law from the Seoul National
University. In 1978 Mr. Kim passed the state bar exam and
finished his articling in 1980 at the Judicial Training
and Research Institute of Korea. In 1983, he became an associate
lawyer for the firm of Kim & Chang and had worked there
until the very next year. From 1984 to 1986, during the
three-year period, he had practiced law as a judge at the
Incheon District Court. Then, for the next three years between
1986 and 1989, he had served as a judge at the Seoul Civil
District Court. In 1989, he was transferred to the Gimcheon
Branch Court and had served as judge there until the very
next year. In the same year, upon concluding his service
at the Gimcheon Court, he had decided to leave for the United
States and enrolled at the program offered by the University
of California at Berkeley. He returned to Korea in 1991,
was assigned to the Daegu Court in the same year, and had
served as judge there until year 1992. Then from the same
year to the very next, he served as judge in the Seoul High
Court. In 1993, he began to conduct research on labor and
administrative cases as judicial researcher at the Supreme
Court and had proceeded with his work there until 1996.
From 1996 to 1997, he served as senior judge at the Gangneung
Branch Court. From 1997 to 1998, he was transferred to the
Chuncheon Branch Court and served as Chief Judge. From 1998
to 1999, he served as senior judge at the Sungnam Branch
Court. From 1999 to 2000, he served as senior judge at the
Seoul Eastern District Court. From 2002 to 2004, he served
as senior judge at the Korean Patent Court. From 2004 to
2005, he served as senior judge at the Seoul High Court.
Since 2005, he has been working as a partner attorney at
the Barun Law.
